This interview was conducted as a part of the project “Pax Brasiliana? A Study of Brazil’s Role in Constitutional and Political Crises in Latin America (1990-2015)”, developed by Oliver Stuenkel. This project aims to provide, through analysis and oral history interviews with main actors, a deeper understanding of several political and institutional crises occurred in Latin America since 1990, as well as the Brazilian connection and agency regarding each of them. Peter F. Romero served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs (Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean) between 2000 and 2001 and as U.S. Ambassador to Ecuador from 1993 to 1996.
